Notice About Our Formula #1 Sea Salt Mix:

As of 07-09-09 our Formula #1 sea salt you are now able to combine the separated calcium packet in the sea salt mix bag at time of mixing you sea salt and is optional.

NEVER DIVIDE UP OUR 5 or 25 GALLON DRY SEA SALT MIX BAGS TO MAKE INTO SMALLER DENOMINATIONS. EACH 5 or 25 GALLON SEA SALT MIX BAG IS STIRRED BUT NOT TOTALLY MIXED. YOU MUST USE OUR CONCENTRATED SLURRY METHOD TO MAKE SMALLER DENOMINATIONS IN ORDER TO GET 100% OF OUR FORMULA RATIO.

Mixing Instructions:

1): First time mixing our 5 or 25 gallon sea salt mix bag, it’s recommended to fill your container an estimated 80% volume of the 5 or 25 gallons water volume.

2):  Mix in dry sea salt, (*)it’s optional at this time to add the dry calcium packet, (for the sodium chloride NaCl free packages add your own sodium chloride at this time), let dissolve to clear and adjust salinity to 1.026 or 35 ppt and you will have a full 5 or 25 gallon true mix. If you require a lower salinity level this will increase your total water volume and is ok. Use a strong water pump to mix the dry sea salt mix (* calcium is optional at this time) and filtered water. (We Recommend using a 1200 GPH water pump for the 25 gallon mix and a 350 GPH water pump for a 5 gallon mix). A water pump will act as a heater to heat your water to 76 to 78 degrees in a short period of time. The warmer the filtered water is the quicker the dry sea salt mix will dissolve clear when mixing.

(76 to 78 degrees temperature is ideal)

3): (**) We Recommend letting your mixing pump run only 12 to 24 hours, and then turn off mixing pump.

4): As with any brand of mixed sea salt and you let it sit for awhile always check your pH and alkalinity levels before using and adjust if needed.

(*)

You do not need to add the separated calcium at the time of mixing your sea salt unless you are going to use it in 12 to 24 hour, for a couple of reasons.

Reason #1: (The best reason of them all!)

There will be times for one reason or another, that your aquarium will have a high calcium level. We are the only sea salt maker that has the following benefit; you can do a water change with-out adding some or the entire separated calcium packet to safely lower your calcium to your desired level.

Reason #2:

By not adding the separated calcium packet at time of mixing, the ph and alkalinity levels will be slightly higher because the calcium is not in the salt mix to interact with the buffering system, thus you are able to let your mixed salt water stand for an indefinite period of time. Just add the separated calcium several hours before use, so the calcium can start to interact with the buffering system to bring the ph and alkalinity to their proper levels.

Reason #3:

Because we truly do not use any type of an anti caking agent, we have to package the calcium separate for each 5 or 25 gallon mix bag of sea salt. The purpose of using any kind of anti caking agents it to keep the sea salt mix dry during manufacturing and storage. By us not using any kind of an anti caking agent means that our sea salt mix can and will pull moisture thru our 4 mil plastic bag, which is ok, because the calcium is packaged separately so it will not interact with the buffering system  to cause precipitation or cloudiness at time of mixing.  It is common and normal for our sea salt mix to have small moisture content. Store our sea salt in a cool dry place.

(**)

Through our testing we found that by leaving your mixing water pump continuously running beyond the 12 to 24 hour period causes the ph and alkalinity levels to prematurely drop as to where you will have to supplement before use.  Continuously running your mixing water pump and it’s over sized for your water volume, will cause the water temperature too heat up to much and will cause a brown slime on the interior mixing container.

We will continually up-date this page as we learn more.

The fundamentals of maintaining saltwater aquariums and maintaining all colors of coralline algae.

We ask that you do not think of your saltwater aquarium as a fish only saltwater tank, reef only saltwater tank or as a saltwater reef tank with fish. Think of your aquarium as a saltwater aquarium, period. In nature the marine animals all come from a well balanced system. This is how we maintain our saltwater aquarium water chemistry values with great success. Magnesium Values: 1250 - 1350 mg/L, Calcium Values: 380 - 450 ppm, Alkalinity Values: 3 - 5 meg/L or 8 - 11 dKH, pH Values: 8.1 - 8.4, Boron Values: 4.5 mg/L, Salinity Values:  1.026 SG or 35 PPT, Iodide Values: 0.03 – 0.06 ppm, Strontium Values: 10 and 15 mg/L. By keeping the above values stable and constant, using R/O DI filtered water, along with proper water changes, using a good protein skimmer, using carbon and or GFO media in a reactor, using  25 micron filtering bags and proper lighting for your corals. You will have a well balanced saltwater tank and you'll be able to grow and maintain good coralline growth and house any animal from the world’s reef systems and have them flourish. Try this method for 2 months and you will see a difference!  Pass It On!

Saltwater Correct product line proceeds helps us further our aquaculture program.
