Saltwater Correct Virgin Bituminous Activated Carbon is NOT an acid washed
carbon, especially with phosphoric acid which can leach PHOSPHATES into your water. Saltwater Correct Virgin Bituminous Activated Carbon is made from virgin bituminous activated carbon and is made from the
highest select grade of virgin bituminous coal and is specifically designed to be used in
all aquarium
applications. Saltwater Correct Virgin Bituminous Activated Carbon has a high adsorption
capacity, low 8% ash content and maintains high resistance to mechanical degradation. Get Tanked Aquariums tested many different
types of activated carbon on our then 14 independent coral reef systems. By having 14 independent coral reef set-ups,
we were able to see the differences for each type of activated carbon that we experimented with. From our experiments, we found that the
heavier (GAC) granular activated carbon does not last as long as the lighter weight
(GAC) granular activated carbon, reason being the heavier (GAC) granular activated carbon is, the more dense it will be. The more density (GAC) granular activated
carbon has, the more solid it is, the less porous it will
be. It's the pores that does all the work making
your aquarium water crystal clear. Using a lighter weight (GAC) granular
activated carbon means the more porous it will be and the more work it can do at keeping your aquarium water in pristine condition. The size of each carbon granular does matter. The smaller each carbon granular is, the more surface area
it will have. The smaller the carbon granular are,
equates to smaller voids in the carbon pile, remember water will always take the path of least resistance. Smaller voids in the carbon pile means more
water is apt to go thru the carbon particles and less thru
the voids. The opposite happens when using larger carbon
particles, the bigger the carbon particles are in the carbon column,
the bigger the voids are, hence, more water will go thru the carbon voids
rather then thru the carbon particles. Remember water will always take the path of least resistance.
Saltwater Correct Virgin Bituminous Activated Carbon is half the
weight at half the cost of the other leading brands.

The most efficient way to utilize (GAC) granular activated carbon is to run carbon in a carbon / media reactor. When using carbon in a nylon bag and placing the carbon bag in your sump, this is called the passive mode. The passive mode is a very inefficient way to utilizing activated carbon, remember water will always take the path of least resistance. Most of the water is going to go around the bag, the water that goes thru the bag will more then likely go thru the voids of each (GAC) granular activated carbon particles. There are times that you are dictated to and have to use a nylon bag (lack of room or no sump). It takes some pressure to push water thru carbon, this is why carbon should be used in some type of a reactor. You do not want the water flow to be to slow or to fast running thru carbon. Continuous use of activated carbon will keep your fish and corals looking like they are floating in air and you will not have to clean the inside of your aquariums glass as often. The clearer your water is, the further the light waves can travel to the bottom of your aquarium. Carbon should be replaced every 3 to 4 weeks.

The secret of growing and maintaining all colors of coralline algae.
We ask that you do not think of your saltwater aquarium as a fish only saltwater tank, reef only saltwater tank or as a saltwater reef tank with fish. Think of your aquarium as a saltwater aquarium, period. In nature the marine animals all come from a well balanced system. This is how we maintain our saltwater aquarium water chemistry values with great success.
Magnesium Values: 1250 - 1350 mg/L, Calcium Values: 380 - 450 ppm, Alkalinity Values: 3 - 5 meg/L or 8 - 11 dKH, pH Values: 8.1 - 8.4, Borate/Boron Values: 4.5 mg/L, Salinity Values: 1.026 SG or 35 PPT, Iodide Values: 0.03 – 0.06 ppm, Strontium Values: 10 and 15 mg/L. By keeping the above values stable and constant, using R/O DI filtered water, along with proper water changes, using a good protein skimmer, using carbon in a reactor, using 25 micron filtering bags and proper lighting for your corals. You will have a well balanced saltwater tank and you'll be able to grow and maintain good coralline growth and house any animal from the world’s reef systems and have them flourish. Try this method for 2 months and you will see a difference! Pass It On!
